Astronomy for Anarchists with Mira Ceti
Sat February 28th ::3:30pm-5pm
@ Tamarack(1501 Harrison St, Oakland)
••• The science of astronomy asks us to look outwards and consider scales of space and time nearly beyond human imagination. Have you ever wondered… Is the universe infinite? What would falling into a black hole feel like? How *is* a star born? Are we alone in the cosmos? In this course, we will build a base of astronomy knowledge to work towards answering these questions. We will learn what is known about our universe; how we know what we know; and what remains unknown. In parallel, we will consider how astronomy relates to how we organize ourselves here on Earth. We will discuss topics such as indigenous astronomy practices; how astrophysics is complicit in the military industrial complex; and how astronomy could help us work towards a borderless world. No scientific background is expected, all are welcome; just bring curiosity about the cosmos.

Increasing Autonomy Through Anarchominimalism with Re
Thurs March 12th :: 6pm–7:30pm
@ Long Haul (3124 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley)
••• Anarchominimalism is a synthesis of both anarchic and minimalistic behaviors and ideologies. The primary intention is to incorporate minimalist processes into the lives of the anarchic to allow us to live free from excess possessions, labor, surveillance, stress, and many more detractors from our autonomy. Additionally, the introduction of anarchic thought to already self-proclaimed minimalists may be a happy byproduct of this project, challenging the preconceived notions of those who desire anti-consumption, working less and living naturally, but who don’t quite see what all of those things do with each other in a systemic sense.

••• The Hologram is a lightweight, replicable, autonomous protocol for human cooperation which produces a rare form of de-institutionalized stability. In this non-expert web of support, 3 people (the triangle) ask questions to a 4th one (the hologram) in a structured ritual. The hologram doesn’t give back, instead their job is to ensure that each of their triangle members also have support from another three people, growing the rhizome of care. By making this form of viral communal stability, we believe that hologrammers and their communities may be able to survive differently, and produce new ways of living that don’t rely on or reproduce the toxic systems that are killing us.

••• With only a home wifi connection and an old computer, you can host your own customizable version of iCloud Photos, Google Drive, Netflix, Spotify, or almost any other cloud service you want–no ad tracking, surveillance, or AI scraping! As a self-taught tinkerer and hobby coder (not a techie!), I want to share the terminology, resources, and tools that I have used to self-host many of my services, and to facilitate discussion about how these skills might support community resilience and autonomy in the face of repression. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the risks of self-hosting and mitigating these risks with proper security practices. This course is oriented towards those who feel comfortable using a desktop, browsing the web, and navigating their filesystem. No need for any technical experience beyond that!
